“Screws is a direct hit by Alexander Vantournhout. Because of the craftsmanship that unmistakably comes from it and the artistic ingenuity on top of that. But also simply for the almost childlike pleasure that you experience as a viewer.”

“Screws is more than circus. Screws is more than dance. It is something that surpasses both.”
Danser Canal Historique
“Screws, an ode to physical intelligence.”
Etcetera
“Fans of bowling know that the ball can weigh up to seven kilograms. So Alexander Vantournhout
thought: “The perfect dancing partner!” In Screws, he dances a duet with a bowling ball – which he
holds in front of him with his arms outstretched – and has choreographed a love-dance in
snowshoes. Strike!”
Knack Focus
Usually a bowling ball has only one function: to knock over as many pins as possible at the bowling alley. But what if you remove the bowling ball from its usual environment?
Screws turns around the relationship between the body and the object in various ways. Different objects attached to the body either provide support or throw the body off balance. In this way gravity can be overcome or enhanced. With the help of ice shoes, bowling balls, anti-gravity shoes and other objects, the performers of Screws defy the laws of physics.
Together with four dancer-acrobats Vantournhout guides you as spectator along a route of reverberating short performances: from solos and duets to pointy group choreographies.
This site-specific performance invites you out of your comfortable seat and sets you in motion. Stroll around and let yourself be carried away by these exceptional miniature compositions.
