alleen (alone)

tg STAN

What can we tell each other, what do we have in common ?
The theatre.
That’s it, probably.
Actually it’s very little. It’s nothing at all.

alleen is a confrontation of two worlds: the author and the theatre director, the native and the immigrant, the pessimist and the optimist, a Belgian and a Belgian. Tg STAN member Sara De Roo and author Fikry El Azouzzi. alleen is a production that aims to build bridges. De Roo tells the multicultural love story between the white journalist Eva and the dishwasher Ayoub who is of Moroccan heritage. At the same time, her collaboration with El Azzouzi expresses a frustration about the white monocultural character of our performing arts. In her correspondence with the author, she tries to bridge the distance between their differences in vision and worldview. And it is necessary, because if we do not build bridges, we will remain alone.

Theatre company STAN is a collective formed by Jolente De Keersmaeker, Sara De Roo, Damiaan De Schrijver and Frank Vercruyssen, and stands for text-theatre. STAN places the performer in the centre: s/he is both player and maker. Fikry El Azzouzi is an author well-known for his columns, novels and plays. For his theatre play and novel Drarrie in de nacht, he was awarded the 65th Ark Prize by Het Vrije Woord in 2015. Fikry El Azzouzi is one of the new KVS-Faces and wrote the text for Malcolm X.
